Gearbox FAQs
How long does a clutch last?+
Typically 60,000–100,000 miles. Urban stop-start driving and towing reduce that significantly.
Do I need a dual-mass flywheel too?+
If the DMF has excessive play or heat damage, yes. We inspect it once the box is out and show you the wear.
Should I service an automatic gearbox?+
Yes. Despite 'sealed for life' claims, a fluid and filter service every 60,000 miles prevents very expensive failures.
Can gearbox work be done mobile?+
No — clutch and gearbox work is carried out at our workshop. We can recover the car for you.
