Starter Motors — Mobile Service
A car that clicks, whirrs or does nothing at all when you turn the key is not always a flat battery. We test the starter circuit properly — battery, feed, solenoid and motor — and only replace what has actually failed.
When you need this
- A single loud click when you turn the key
- A whirring or grinding noise but the engine does not turn
- Starter engages intermittently, often worse when hot
- Dashboard lights are bright but nothing happens
- Smell of burning from the engine bay when starting
What's included
- Voltage-drop testing of the full starter circuit
- Solenoid and ignition feed testing
- Supply and fit of a new or reconditioned starter motor
- Ring gear inspection
- Post-fit crank and charge test

Starter Motors FAQs
Can a starter be repaired instead of replaced?+
Sometimes the solenoid or brushes alone can be replaced. We will tell you when this is a sensible option.
How long does a starter replacement take?+
Between one and three hours depending on access. Some engines require the inlet manifold or subframe to be dropped.
Can you do it at the roadside?+
Often yes, provided the location is safe and the starter is reachable. Otherwise we can recover the car to our workshop.
Is it definitely the starter?+
We always test the battery and feed first — a poor earth or a tired battery gives identical symptoms.
